“Aloha – We Have a Problem!”
A Hawaii-based blood bank was set to ship samples needing specialized lab work from Honolulu, HI to Phoenix, AZ when the unthinkable happened. Airlines began to cancel flights to and from the island due to COVID-19. With their regular flight cancelled, the blood bank sent this urgent message to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA): “Our carrier and many other airlines have cancelled all flights to Hawaii,” the message began. “There are no testing facilities on the Island for the required viral marker testing. We are exploring all options for transport – including military. If you can suggest any other options, please advise.” FDA officials then connected the blood bank with Blood Centers of America who suggested MNX handle this extremely, time sensitive shipment.
The MNX team was quickly able to provide assistance to secure space on a connecting flight from Honolulu, HI to Phoenix, AZ. A flight with a connection through LAX in Los Angeles was selected because LAX serves as an MNX Gateway. All of our gateways are staffed with employees who can recover shipments when necessary and tender them to another airline. Additionally, a vehicle was placed on stand-by to drive the shipment to Phoenix as a backup. Our operations team set up the order and verified routings, tender windows, and connections. LAX staff then monitored all activity and provided proactive communications with the blood bank and receiving lab during every stage of the shipment.
The blood bank’s samples were delivered on time to Phoenix through LAX on one of MNX’s many trusted airlines and carriers. Our industry-leading door-to-door transportation and logistics services enables MNX to meet your every need and challenge with an unmatched level of customer service and superior handling – understanding that each customer has their own specific, time-critical shipping requirements.
